The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced some roster news on Wednesday afternoon. Here’s an overview:
- 21-day practice windows to return from injured reserve were opened for OG Landon Dickerson, TE Eli Stowers, TE Grant Calcaterra, and CB Jakorian Bennett.
- DB Dean Clark was signed to the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
LANDON DICKERSON
Dickerson became eligible to return from IR after the Eagles’ Week 5 game.
The three-time Pro Bowler looked like a shell of himself in Week 1 as he played through injury. He admitted after the game that he was “a complete liability.”
The hope is that Dickerson is truly healthy now. But it’s hard not to wonder if his previous injuries have
left him physically diminished moving forward.
The guess here is that the Eagles aren’t going to rush Dickerson back into the starting lineup. But perhaps I’m wrong about that.
If/when he does return, one would figure he’ll take his place at his normal starting position at left guard.
ELI STOWERS
Stowers became eligible to return from IR after the Eagles’ Week 4 game.
It’s curious how the rookie tight end ended up on IR in the first place since he told reporters he was set to play in Week 1 before being ruled questionable on the final injury report. He was then downgraded one day later with talk of the Eagles discovering he was more injured than initially realized. Had he not been placed on IR, there was thought he would be a healthy scratch in the Eagles’ season opener.
Stowers was pretty invisible during the Eagles’ offseason practices and preseason games. He never took any first-team reps, meaning he hasn’t had much time to develop chemistry with Jalen Hurts. And it’s not like he’s known for blocking or helping out on special teams.
So, it’ll be interesting to see what the Eagles do with Stowers. The team is currently carrying three tight ends on the roster: Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins. They also have Zach Ertz on the practice squad and the veteran is out of temporary elevations. The Eagles will have to sign Ertz to the roster if they want him available on game days moving forward.
Stowers needs reps in order to get better, so, it’s good to see he’s back on the practice squad. But I don’t know how he fits on the roster. Guessing the Eagles aren’t rushing to activate him.
GRANT CALCATERRA
Oh, that’s right, Calcaterra is still on the team.
He became eligible to return from IR after the Eagles’ Week 4 game.
As previously noted, the Eagles already have plenty of bodies at tight end. Not sure how Calcaterra fits in the picture here.
It is worth noting that just because the Eagles open a player’s 21-day practice window doesn’t mean they will definitely activate them to the roster. They can let the window close, leaving the player on IR. Why open the window at all, then? Well, there’s value in having the flexibility of having them ready in case injury issues arise.
But, at this point in time, I don’t see the need for Calcaterra to take up a roster spot.
JAKORIAN BENNETT
Bennett became eligible to return from IR after the Eagles’ Week 4 game.
The Eagles aren’t really hurting for corner depth. And it seems like they might trust veteran Jonathan Jones to be the top backup on the outside than Bennett anyway.
But, again, the value in opening Bennett’s window is that he can be ready should the team find themselves in need of corner help over the next few weeks.
DEAN CLARK
Clark, 25, went unpicked in the 2025 NFL Draft before signing with the New York Jets. He played 180 defensive snaps and 172 special teams snaps last season. The Jets waived him in roster cuts prior to the start of the 2026 season.
The majority of Clark’s snaps have come at safety but he has some nickel corner experience as well. With the Eagles already behind thin at safety and Michael Carter II getting hurt in Week 5, doesn’t hurt to add some more depth on the back end of the defense.
