Bayern Munich fans often like to think that the Injury Gods specifically target their players. However, injury crisis aside, things have taken a more serious turn lately, following Jamal Musiala’s announcement about his health issues. Musiala revealed last month about his struggle with a neurological condition causing absences. He explained that he had been closely monitored by doctors in his path to managing a life in sport with his condition.
The two instances on the pitch with Musiala almost collapsing,
against Heidenheim and RB Leipzig, have been worrying to say the least. A lot of questions following this incident were answered, but one remained — how do the players know what to do when something like this happens? On both instances, teammates would hold him and prevent any falls, but has the team been briefed on an exact process? Joshua Kimmich answered this question following Bayern’s 2-1 win against SV Elversberg.
Kimmich revealed that they had a set of steps to follow if any incidents occurred during training. “You go over and try to get him to lie down on the ground. Then the doctors and physios come and take care of it,” he explained to Abendzeitung journalist Maximillian Koch. This aligns with what we have seen, as Ismael Saibari helped Musiala to the ground against Heidenheim.
“Generally, it’s important for us to know that nothing bad can happen. For Jamal, of course, too. Accordingly, we’re making sure the situation is resolved calmly,” Kimmich emphasized.
