It is not always easy to answer questions after a game and every player can have a moment of weakness in dealing with what they consider to be an annoying or inane question.
Bayern Munich captain Manuel
Neuer is not immune to that.
When asked about the goal by Mislav Oršić in the Champions League, Neuer did not lose his cool or anything, but seemed annoyed by the line of questioning from a journalist.
On the play, a terrible turnover from Kim Min-jae set the Pafos FC player up for a perfect opportunity. In turn, Oršić also hit a perfect shot. Well, perfect to this writer, but maybe not to all writers.
After the match, Neuer and a journalist had a little back-and-forth (and captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Reporter: “Was it unstoppable?”
Neuer: “Yes.”
Reporter: “Did you react relatively late?”
Neuer: “No. Were you a goalkeeper?”
(Author’s Note: This is typically not a great response from a player of Neuer’s stature, but it happens.)
Reporter: “To be honest, no.”
(Author’s Note: Really? 🤣)
Neuer: “That’s a pity. The ball went straight at first and then took a different trajectory. It was coming in my direction, but then you see relatively late that it took a different trajectory to the right. If you played football, you’d know what I’m talking about. So that’s the answer to the question.”
This was not Neuer’s best moment and while not exactly legendary Boston Globe journalist Will McDonough vs. New England Patriots defensive back Raymond Clayborn (Spoiler Alert: It did not end well for Clayborn, who — per some accounts — got KO’d by the writer), it was still an exchange that likely did not need to happen.
Sometimes, though,
Bayern Munich traveled to Cyprus to face a very feisty and game Pafos FC side in the Champions League and the game, well, went as expected.
The Bavarians dominated from start to finish and received another thoroughly dominant performance from the attacking group. And, yup, Harry Kane had a brace.
