Game notes
- You know we are going to say it, but this IS a big game for the Boston Bruins as they take on the Detroit Red Wings with valuable points in the division on the line to try to make some separation in the standings from a very tight race.
- With only 13 games left in the season, these are two crucial points on the line. The Bruins and Red Wings are tied for points not only in the Atlantic Division, but the wild care race. Right now, the B’s sit in the first wild card spot with the Red Wings rounding out the second. The New York Islanders trail one point behind both teams in the wild card and Columbus is holding onto that last spot in the Metropolitan Division with 83 points.
- In the divisional race, Montreal also has 84 points, but currently holds the third spot in the Atlantic.
- It’s no surprise going down this stretch that both team’s top point leaders are well, leading the way. For the Bruins, Pastrnak has eight points in the last five games with four goals and four assists. For Detroit, DeBrincat has nine points with one goal and eight assists in that time
- This is the fourth and final time the Bruins face the Red Wings this season. The Bruins are 2-1-0 against them with a shootout 3-2 win, 5-4 loss and 3-0 shutout.
- Head-to-head, the Red Wings’ PK is slightly stronger than the Bruins, but Boston’s power play holds the advantage.
- The Bruins’ line of Pavel Zacha, Casey Mittelstadt and Viktor Arvidsson will hopefully keep their production rolling into tonight’s game. The combo helped the team to its Thursday win over Winnipeg with each player collecting two points. The line has put up a combined 15 points in its last five games with five goals. Four of those goals came from Zacha.
- We’ll also be keeping an eye on Lukas Reichel who made his Bruins’ debut the other night and already put up two points. He scored the Bruins’ second goal against Winnipeg in the second period before the Bruins opened the floodgates later in the game.
- See ya tonight!
