Roman Anthony was recently spotted at a Celtics game, which is awesome. It’s always fun to see Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins players show up at Fenway on Opening Day, especially after a World Series. Or David Ortiz at anything. Just seeing Big Papi showing up somewhere makes it that much more interesting. So as this year winds down, What should Roman Anthony have on his dance card?
First Night
Roman Anthony, famously from Florida, with ice sculptures. Why not kick off the new year with the new hotness? He wouldn’t’
have to be limited to the ice sculptures, of course. He wouldn’t even have to be hosting the events in any way. I just want him wandering around and existing in the atmosphere.
Truck Day
Is it too soon to do a joke entry? Maybe. But the Red Sox bother with making Truck Day a public event every year and players are probably all at their homes far away from Boston. Except for Rich Hill. And a small handful of others. Why not have Anthony around during the day just seeing if anyone notices him? Or interviewing fans about their thoughts on the upcoming season? While he’s still not the most recognizable player (though maybe he is already) there are some opportunities for fun here.
Boston Marathon
Alex Cora was able to run the Boston Half Marathon, the famous 2024 5k where he got the medal that became the home run celebration, and this past November’s New York City Marathon. He hasn’t run the Boston Marathon, of course, because the Red Sox will definitely have a game that day. This makes it a difficult task for Roman too. Maybe we let him wait until he retires as a player? It would be a heck of a thing to do after what we all hope is career filled with noteworthiness.
Pops Goes the 4th
Maybe Roman Anthony could be one of the guests on stage with Keith Lockhart and the crew? Bring him in during fireworks or as a guest conductor? It hardly seems like having a connection to a baseball player on the nation’s birthday could be a bad thing! Celebrate the Pax Roman Anthony with many years of Red Sox success. And fireworks.
The World Cup
Sure, Roman Anthony may not know much about soccer (I have no idea) and soccer fans may not know him (probably true), but in 2026 we have an event placing Boston (Foxborough) on the global stage and the Red Sox should have their young star involved somehow. They own Liverpool after all! The least we can ask John Henry at this point is to direct at least a little of that synergy towards ways that build and explained the Red Sox brand.
Allston Christmas
Although he’ll never need to participate in the chaos and madness of September 1st moving cycles, Roman Anthony, Wally, and anyone else could join in on the fun as the Red Sox try to break their curse of bad Septembers. I’m not entirely sure here what their roles could be, but maybe they all work together to hold signs go prevent Storrowing or something.
The key to all of this is that we are about to get a lot more Roman Anthony. One thing is likely: 2026 is going to be his coming out party for the city the same way his 2025 brought him to the very top of the Red Sox lineup. And there is no telling what that will mean for Boston and the Red Sox. But hopefully it means he’s healthy, playing well, and on a rebuilt Boston team committed to winning and desiring their stars are in the public eye.
