Michael Zerafa’s score with the Tszyu family remains unsettled after a three-round no contest against Nikita this morning.
Zerafa (34-5, 22 KO) suffered a cut to the eyelid after a clash of heads in the second
round. Upon examination by the ringside physician, Zerafa insisted that he “couldn’t see” despite a lack of blood or swelling, prompting a halt to the bout. Despite video evidence, Zerafa subsequently went into a meltdown, insisting to a furious crowd that he did not, in fact, say the thing everyone heard him say.
I tend to defer to fighters when it comes to assessing their fitness to continue; bodies have a lot of moving parts under the surface, so damage isn’t always obvious. That said, Zerafa straight-up lying about his actions makes it hard to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially considering this was an overpriced PPV headliner.
On the plus side, fans did get to see incredibly large rugby veteran Nelson Asofa-Solomona score a nasty uppercut KO in his pro boxing debut.
