On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that the team has signed former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Seth Henigan to the team’s practice squad.
Henigan had reportedly tried out for the Colts a few
weeks ago.
The listed 6,‘3”, 215 pound quarterback was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis by the Jaguars this past offseason but was released as part of their final 53-man roster cuts, before being subsequently re-signed to their practice squad for a short stint to start the regular season—and then later released.
He was 2x All-AAC with the Tigers, completing 1,147 of his 1,791 pass attempts (64.0%) for 14,266 total passing yards, 104 passing touchdowns, and 31 interceptions during 50 games.
In the interim, Henigan will fill in as the Colts’ active organizational QB4 role on the team’s practice squad ahead of the regular season finale against the Houston Texans and could be a reserve/future contract candidate entering this upcoming offseason.
The once vacant role was previously filled by backup quarterback Brett Rypien before he was signed to the Colts’ 53-man active roster from their taxi squad in the wake of starter Daniel Jones’ season-ending Achilles injury a few weeks ago.
However, Rypien was later waived, only to be claimed by his quarterback needy former team, the Minnesota Vikings—meaning the Colts didn’t even have the opportunity to try to re-stash Rypien on the team’s practice squad again because he didn’t actually clear league waivers. That role will now go to Henigan for the time being.
