The Shield was one of the most dominant factions in wrestling history, and its members — Jon Moxley back when he went by Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins — have gone on to headline events for
multiple brands and companies. They were also a breath of fresh air for wrestling fans who’d grown accustomed to new upper-card heel acts being beaten early in their runs (usually by John Cena).
But don’t hold your breath waiting for a Shield reunion. You probably weren’t, simply because Mox is locked in at AEW and pretty well entrenched as one of the top not-WWE guys in the business while Rollins and Reigns show all signs of being WWE-lifers. That why, during an “Actually Us” video he and wife Becky Lynch did to promote the new season of WWE Unreal on Netflix, Seth put long odds on getting the trio back together. There is one place he thinks it could happen in the future though… and a few ways to do it without one of them:
“Not a lot of love lost between myself and Roman Reigns. Dean Ambrose — Jon Moxley — not currently with the company. Don’t know if he’s ever coming back. I would say chances are very slim.
”Maybe one day there will be a Hall of Fame induction where all three of us will be in the same place at the same time. I would say we’re looking at like a real, real [slim chance]. Maybe Kurt Angle has a better chance.”
Angle, you may recall, is one of a few folks who filled in as a third Shield member in the 2010s while Reigns was sidelined for leukemia treatment. Our Olympic Hero did it on PPV at 2017’s TLC, but even Triple H pitched in on a European tour.
But with both the alternates retired for medical reasons, I guess we’re stuck with that slim chance of hearing “Sierra. Hotel. India. Echo. Lima. Delta.” at a Hall of Fame Ceremony someday…
