BYU picked up one of the biggest wins in program istory and held on the last play in a 28-24 win over Notre Dame Saturday night in Provo. Notre Dame drove the length of the field on the final drive, but CJ Carr’s final pass on first & goal fell incomplete as time expired.
BYU went into halftime 21-10 behind a brilliant first half from Bear Bachmeier and BYU’s offense. Bear Bachmeier was responsible for all four of BYU’s TDs, scoring 2 on the ground, 1 through and, and catching a TD pass. Bear finished
with 224 yards through the air and 66 on the ground. BYU’s offensive line played great and Preston Rex gave BYU enough of a running game with 66 yards on 10 carries.
BYU’s special teams kept Notre Dame in the game with a muffed punt and failed fake punt deep in Notre Dame territory, but BYU’s defense held the Irish to field goals after both of those turnovers and overall played a great night and kept BYU in the game in the second half while the offense struggled. Isaiah Glasker returned from injury and had arguably his best game since the 2024 Alamo Bowl, finishing with 3 passes defended, 6 tackles, and overall activity the whole night. Cade Uluave finished with a team-high 9 tackles and was in the Irish backfield on multiple nights with blitzes that Kelly Poppinga the whole night.
What’s shocking is that BYU won this game despite having no LJ Martin, losing the turnover battle, and getting outgained by the Irish. Notre Dame had to settle for three field goals and all four of BYU’s scores were touchdowns.
BYU moves to 6-0 and should be ranked either 1, 2, or 3 in the AP Poll after losses by teams ranked 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7. BYU travels across the country next Saturday to play at UCF.
