Uros Medic is now a Top 15 welterweight.
That’s because “The Medic” stretchered 170-pound veteran Geoff Neal in the UFC Houston co-main event last weekend on Paramount+, and now has his sights on the division Top 10. The means to that end include a victory over former champion Leon Edwards, ranked four spots above Medic at No. 8.
Even if the fight takes places in Serbia.
“Everybody wants to fight up,” Medic, 32, told MMA Junkie. “That’s why I’m calling for him – he’s up. I know he wants to fight up, and
if he cannot get a fight up, and he still wants to fight, I’m going to be ready for him. As long as he’s healthy, I assume that he would be down to fight. Why not? I mean, he probably thinks he can beat me. They all think they can beat me. That’s always the case. ‘Oh, we’re gonna beat this guy.’ And then they get knocked out. I’m not afraid to lose. Come and bring it. Try to beat me. We’ll see what the future brings, but let him try and have some of it, you know?”
Edwards (22-6) is not in a position to pick and choose his opponents.
Despite capturing the welterweight crown from Kamaru Usman — then defending it against Colby Covington — the 34 year-old Englishman has lost three straight and got finished in back-to-back losses opposite 170-pound contenders Sean Brady (UFC London) and Carlos Prates (UFC 322).
Medic (13-3) is the winner of three straight, all by knockout.
