Good morning, baseball fans!
We are just about two weeks away from San Francisco Giants pitchers and catchers reporting to Scottsdale for Spring Training.
So I figured it was a good time to check in and see how everyone is feeling about this off-season so far.
Personally, I am underwhelmed. It’s hard not to be when you’re in a division with the Los Angeles Dodgers, whose philosophy on signing free agents is akin to the most avid of Pokemon collectors.
And I know I sound like a broken record on this topic,
but I can’t help it. I know the problem, you know the problem, they know the problem, your cat even knows the problem! To paraphrase a line from Hamilton, they are out-gunned (what?), out-manned (what?), outnumbered and out-planned. And out-spent, definitely cannot ignore that part.
It’s not a new problem, of course, but as far as I can see the organization hasn’t made any serious efforts to do anything about it. So if it is to be business as usual on their end, I will continue to be a broken record on mine.
I have very little confidence in this team, as it is currently constructed, to do any better than fourth place in the division. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing that kept them from being fourth last season was the brief hot start they had early in the year.
So my only genuine curiosity for this season is to see who will end up being the sacrificial lamb that gets blamed and ultimately fired at the end of the season. It’s a sad state of affairs, but that’s how I’m feeling.
How are you feeling about the Giants’ offseason thus far?
