This Sunday, the Cleveland Browns are at home as they take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. To help preview a few topics from the Ravens’ perspective, we reached out to Nikhil Mehta from Baltimore Beatdown and exchanged five questions with him.
Chris: “Baltimore made a big change at head coach this year — has there been a clear visible change in the way the Ravens play under Jesse Minter, or does it still seem like Ravens football?”
Nikhil: “I would call Jesse Minter’s Ravens an evolution of the
team’s longtime ethos. His defensive scheme is a variation of what Baltimore has run for more than a decade, and special teams coordinator Anthony Levine played and coached under John Harbaugh. Offensively, though, Declan Doyle has incorporated far more under-center looks and taken Zay Flowers to another level.

I think the Ravens’ new identity has more to do with their newfound ability to actually win in the fourth quarter. Their Week 3 and 6 victories in Brazil and Atlanta proved that Minter and his staff can make the right game management decisions; that the roster can weather adversity, penalties, and injuries; and that maybe, just maybe, this team is not completely broken if Lamar Jackson is injured.”
Chris: “What do you view as the Ravens’ biggest strength and weakness on defense right now?”
Nikhil: “I cannot identify any one particular strength of the Ravens defense right now aside from its pure talent. Kyle Hamilton looks like a DPOY candidate every week, even if his position and statistics may not get him there, Nnamdi Madubuike has come back strong from last year’s neck injury, and Trey Hendrickson was constantly generating pressure before missing time due to finger surgery. He’s back this week for just his second game sharing the D-line with Madubuike. Younger players like Mike Green, Trenton Simpson, and Tavius Robinson are also putting together breakout campaigns.
In terms of weaknesses, though, the unit does not feel cohesive yet. Nowhere is this more evident than third down, when the Ravens’ coverage scheme and pressure packages lack synergy and precision, allowing opponents to convert far too many third-and-longs. Rushers and coverage defenders are a split-second too late before and after the pass, though tackling was much-improved in Atlanta.”
Chris: “Which of the Ravens’ 2026 draft picks has the best chance of making an immediate impact in Week 6?”
Nikhil: “Vega Ioane is the easy answer here. He’s starting his third straight game at center, a position played for just a handful of snaps in college, and has graded out as the Ravens’ best blocker while doing it. His snaps have been inconsistent, which is among the reasons Baltimore traded for Cam Jurgens last week, but the Browns’ DT injuries could set him up to make a big impact up front.”
Chris: “Tell us about one player who Browns fans may not have heard of, but who could have an impact on this Sunday’s game.”
Nikhil: “The Browns’ blocking scheme will rightly prioritize Hendrickson and Madubuike on Sunday, which should continue to create opportunities for fourth-year edge rusher Tavius Robinson. The 2023 fourth-round pick has been a force against the run since he entered the NFL, but htis year, he is quietly leading the Ravens with three sacks. The motor and finishing ability that showed up in run defense have finally translated to the pass rush, and Robinson is consistently taking advantage of his 1-on-1 opportunities. Browns right tackle Tytus Howard has struggled to start the year; now, he’ll face a hungry, confident Robinson looking to keep boosting his value in a contract year.”
Chris: “The Browns are underdogs against the Ravens on Sunday (Browns +3 as of this question, per FanDuel). Who would you pick to win the game?”
Nikhil: “I’ll admit, I was not confident in the Ravens last week. For much of the Falcons game, I felt vindicated – Baltimore was losing at the margins and badly missing the reliable downfield passing of Lamar Jackson. But Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley is the definition of a gamer, and like his two 2025 wins, he played his best football when it was needed. Both teams are dealing with injuries, but Baltimore seems better-equipped to overcome theirs and grind out their first AFC North win of the year.”
Thanks again to Nikhil for taking the time to answer my questions.
