Comedian Stavros Halkias says the UFC’s support of Donald Trump has pushed him away from the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).
Trump occupies a very unique place in the UFC due to his close friendship with CEO Dana White. That’s led to Trump getting the red carpet rolled out at numerous UFC events, a big event on the White House lawn, and several political ads appearing during UFC broadcasts, including one pre-midterm ad with Trump promising voters a $5000 check should his party do well.
His party
did not, and now Trump is set to enter 2027 as a ‘lame duck’ president. Based on past experience, White will continue to support his bud and there’s a good chance that Trump will continue to appear at events. And Stavros? He’s sick of it.
“If you think Trump is awesome now, you’re the dumbest person alive,” he said during a recent podcast episode. “You’re stupid or evil or both, probably. And if you’re still sucking Trump’s c–k, you’re a f–king moron. And I believe Dana White has been throating him pretty well recently.”
“I was more of a fan when I was younger,” Stavros said. “My brother’s really [into UFC], when we were kids, we would go to Buffalo Wild Wings and watch every big pay-per-view. It’s an awesome memory from my teenage years. I would get in and out, and I was getting back into the sport. And then, just like, the MAGA suck off has really put a damper on it.”
“Look: every owner of every sports team is a piece of s–t. Typically. Maybe a couple aren’t. But there’s something kinda uniquely, like, ‘We suck Trump’s c–k’ coded about the UFC and their willingness to be a part of propaganda. To me, it’s made it impossible to enjoy the sport as much as I do. I’ll still watch. But sometimes I’m on the fence. I’ll just be like, I just don’t want them to have my money.”
First off, big up Stavi for being part of the B-Dubs crew back when that was a thing. From 2008 to 2016 you could go to a Buffalo Wild Wings and pay no cover to catch the fights with a packed house of people. That was the era that captured the rise of Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, and it’s considered a real golden age.
How many of these people the UFC has turned off by making Trump such a centerpiece of the past few years is unclear, but it’d be foolish to think it hasn’t alienated a whole segment of the population, Stavros included.
