Chivas and Tigres battled in a rain soaked field to a 0-0 tie. It as a poor 1st half and a very exciting 2nd in a match that was hampered by rain although the field conditions were impressive. The match started 2 hours later than first expected after an incredible rainstorm and yet even if it looked like it had flooded, by the time the game started, the field conditions were great for such a strong storm. Chivas will remain in Guadalajara where they will hosts Toluca while Tigres will travel to Mexico
City to face off against Pumas.

The 1st half started with Santiago Sandoval taking the starting spot for the injured Roberto Alvarado. Like in their victory over America, Chivas came out extremely defensive and sat back while Tigres attacked. While the plan was to be defensive and have to counter, Chivas wasn’t able to mount any of them and Tigres was completely dominating the match. After a mistake allowed Bryan Gonzalez to get the ball in the area, he got off a left footed shot that went wide. A cross into the area was deflected by Luis Romo over Chivas’ goalkeeper, Raul Rangel but the ball would go just wide from the open net and then cleared by Chivas’ defense. Tigres had a great opportunity when a thru ball reached Sebastian Cordova in the area but the ball was cleared off his feet as he took too long to get off a shot, wasting a chance. Off a corner kick, Joaquim got off a header that deflected off Gilberto Sepulveda’s arm but nothing was called. A minute later, a great pass found Corodova in the area but his left footed shot went wide. It was the last chance as the half ended with little to no excitement for 45 minutes.
The 2nd half started with Chivas subbing out Miguel Gomez for Jose Castillo. Fernando Gorriaran got off a right footed shot from outside the area that went just wide. Chivas subbed out Cade Cowell for Armando Gonzalez. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was headed wide by Gonzalez. After getting past a defender, Angel Correa got off a right footed shot that forced Rangel to make a save. After getting on a 1 vs 1, Gonzalez had a wide open chance but his right footed shot was blocked by a great save from Tigres’ goalkeeper, Nahuel Guzman. Tigres subbed out Diego Lainez and Sebastian Cordova for Ozziel Herrera and Nicolas Ibañez. Off the corner kick, the ball would bounce in the area before it got to Gonzalez, who got off a great right footed shot past Guzman but it hit the post and went out in the best chance of the match so far. After getting the ball in the area, Gonzalez lobbed the ball before Javier Aquino would handle it and the ref would give a Penalty Kick to Chivas. Efrain Alvarez stepped up to take the PK but his left footed shot was brilliantly saved by Guzman.A right footed shot from Correa forced another save from Rangel. Chivas subbed out Efrain Alvarez and Santiago Sandoval for Richard Ledezma and Javier Hernandez. Tigres subbed out Juan Brunetta and Joaquim for Uriel Antuna and Jesus Alberto Angulo. Off a free kick, a cross into the are from Ledezma was just out of reach for Gonzalez but he was close enough to the goal that Guzman had to make a save on the cross. There was a funny situation when Herrera got past two defender but when he was going to get off a right footed shot, he whiffed on his kick and fell in a blooper. Correa got the ball in the area but his right footed shot was deflected wide. On another 1 vs 1, Gonzalez got into the area but took too long getting off a shot and Angulo got off a sliding tackle to clear the ball off his feet. It was the last chance as the match ended without a goal.

After their great victory against their biggest rival, Club America, on Saturday, Chivas returned to action against Tigres in a match that had been postponed from the first date of the Apertura 2025. That match had been postponed because of preparation on Estadio Akron for the 2026 World Cup and Wednesday night showed the stadium is doing great for the tournament. The match started two hours later for a terrible rain storm but by the time the math started, the field was great and not flooded at all. After a terrible 1st half from both sides, the match picked up for the 2nd but Chivas was not able to get the win even after having more chances.Tigres came up big on defense especially with Guzman stopping a PK. Both teams will need to pick up for their weekend matches. Chivas will have another tough home match as they face 2025 Clausura Champions Toluca. Tigres will travel to Mexico City to face off against Pumas.
