Newcastle United will need to evaluate their attacking options ahead of the summer window because there are many questions around the long-term solutions up front.
With speculation about potential transfers surrounding several forwards across Europe and the Middle East, one familiar name has resurfaced in connection with a potential Premier League return.
Former Newcastle striker Ivan Toney has refused to rule out coming back to England’s Premier League in the future. The 29-year-old joined Saudi Pro
League side Al Ahli in the summer of 2024 for £40 million after four seasons with Brentford, but he’s ready to return.
Since the move, Toney has scored 28 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions this season and currently leads the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot race with 23 goals. Al Ahli sit second in the table, two points behind Al Nassr.
Despite previously rejecting interest from Premier League clubs during the January transfer window, Toney acknowledged that a return remains possible.
“Never say never,” Toney said. “I have goals I want to achieve here first, the club have signed me for a long period of time. I want to repay them and bring trophies. In football and life, you never know what’s around the corner. Who knows what the next step is?
“I want to win titles. I want to leave a big legacy for myself, my children and my family. I’m settled at the moment. With me, I can change my mind very quick so I take it one step at a time. Who knows what could happen. I would be open to it (a Premier League return). But like I said, right now I’ve got unfinished business and I want to win some trophies here first before I think of anything else.”
Toney also confirmed the interest in signing him in January, though he opted instead to remain in Saudi Arabia, where he’s playing extraordinary football.
“Yeah, there were some clubs interested in me. But I said I was happy here, I’m focused here and I’ve got unfinished business to do here.”
