The Virginia Cavaliers football team has released it’s week one depth chart ahead of this Saturday’s season opener against Coastal Carolina.

Offense
To no surprise, Chandler Morris is listed as the starting quarterback. His skill position options are also as expected with Trell Harris, Cam Ross, and Jahmal Edrine listed as the starting wide receivers and J’Mari Taylor ranked as the lead back ahead of Xavier Brown and Harrison Waylee.
Tony Elliott noted that Harris, who’s been dealing with a hamstring injury
and didn’t practice last week, should be good to go against Coastal. Suderian Harrison’s status, however, is still up in the air.
Sage Ennis and Dakota Twitty are listed together with an “OR” designation at tight end. Ennis fulfills the blocking responsibilities at the position well whereas Twitty is the more modern pass-catcher.
The offensive line – ravaged by injuries in the offseason – seems to be set for the start of the regular season with McKale Boley, Noah Josey, Brady Wilson, Drake Metcalf, and Wallace Unamba starting from left to right.
Defense
Jahmeer Carter and Jason Hammond return as starters at defensive tackle, complemented by a string of transfers on the defensive line. Hunter Osborne and Jacob Holmes both look set to filter in at DT along with returner Anthony Britton backing Carter up at nose tackle.
Fisher Camac “OR” Cazeem Moore and Mitchel Melton “OR” Daniel Rickert are the four players listed as potential starters on the edge with returners Bill Koudelka and Terrell Jones adding depth.
Elliott noted that Kam Robinson will likely be back in the lineup in a couple weeks. In his absence, James Jackson and Trey McDonald are the likely starters at linebacker with Landon Daley providing another option at MIKE.
Jordan Robinson and Emmanuel Karnely are UVA’s starting outside corners with Ja’Son Prevard and Corey Costner both listed as potential starters at nickel/SPUR. Then Ethan Minter will start in Antonio Clary’s place at safety while Clary recovers from injury with transfer Devin Neal solidifying the back end.
Special Teams
Daniel Sparks and Will Bettridge are back as Virginia’s punter and kicker. Sparks will also handle the holding and kickoff duties with Kennesaw State transfer Bryce Robinson as the long snapper.
Cam Ross’ speed should provide a boost as a returner.
