It’s good to see Trevor Rogers back on the mound after he left his most recent outing with a blistered toe. Actually, it’s good to see Trevor Rogers on the mound under any circumstances, as he’s been far and away the team’s best pitcher. Actually, the lefty has had the best season by an Orioles pitcher arguably in decades, with a 1.43 ERA in 16 starts, a franchise record, and a team-leading 5.6 bWAR despite not debuting until the end of May. Rogers deserves some down-ballot AL Cy Young votes, even
with 10-15 fewer starts than pitchers who have pitched the whole season.
This will be Rogers’ first time facing the Yankees since 2021, when he was a Marlin. Of the current lineup, he’s faced only Austin Slater, a former SF Giant, with much frequency: Slater is 0-for-8. Paul Goldschmidt is 1-for-6. Amed Rosario is 1-for-3, Aaron Judge 0-for-3, and Giancarlo Stanton 1-for-2.
Will Warren (8-7, 4.44 ERA) is a 26-year-old righty from Brandon, MS, who made six appearances for New York in 2024 (in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s True Lies voice: “Yes, but they were all bad.”), pitching to a 10.32 ERA. But with a 91 ERA+ this season (100 being average), Warren has been just below an average Joe on the mound. Among a five-pitch mix, Warren’s fastball is far and away his best pitch (+10 RV). At 93.3 mph in velocity, it’s not a missile, but it has spin and ride. As for the rest, his sinking fastball is also a plus pitch, but his sweeper, curveball and changeup have been lousy. On April 28, Warren allowed four runs in a short 3.1-inning outing against Baltimore; on June 22, he went 6.1 innings and allowed just two.
