Recap
1st Inning
Bella Dimitrijevic began her day with a lead off single and a two out hit by pitch. With two Tar Heels on base, a walk loaded the bases. Dimitrijevic used her defense to get a pop up and escape the inning.
Facing UNC’s Carly Maxton, Isa Torres wasted no time. Just three pitches in, Torres led off with a solo homerun.
Maxton gave up back to back singles before walking the bases loaded. Still with no outs on the board, a sacrifice fly extended the lead.
3rd Inning
Dimitrijevic cruised through the second inning, and got the first two outs of the third. Facing the third batter of the inning, a solo homerun cut the FSU lead in half, making it 2-1.
4th Inning
Maxton kept FSU off the board in the previous inning, and gave the ball back over to Dimitrijevic. The freshman gave up a lead off walk, that reached second on a wild pitch. With a runner in scoring position, she got back to back strikeouts before a fly out ended the threat.
5th Inning
Ashtyn Danley took over in the 5th, after Dimitrijevic worked for four innings. Out of the bullpen, Danley had two runners on via a single and walk. A caught looking strikeout ended the threat, sending the game to the bottom of the inning.
Hayley Griggs reached on an error by the UNC outfield, followed by a bunt from Torres. With nobody covering second, Torres was able to take an extra base. A fielder’s choice had runners on the corners with one out, bringing up Danley. The pitcher sent a 3 run shot out to center field, taking a 5-1 lead.
After a single, UNC took Maxton out of the game, entering Kendall Frost. For her first relief appearance, Frost gave up a single, but did not allow another run.
7th Inning
.A lead off walk had someone on the bases for the Tar Heels in the final inning. A fielder’s choice and strikeout had Danley one out away, and she got the fly out to take the 6-1 win.
