Arsenal travel to Prague to face Slavia Praha in the Champions League League Phase. The Gunners are in solid shape in the CL table with 7 points from three matches. After today, they’ll have just one away fixture remaining on the schedule, with three of the last four at home. The Czech side are in trouble — they’re currently 32nd with a draw and two losses.
Slavia Praha are going to give Arsenal the best they’ve got. You’ve got to get something from your home CL matches, and they’re already up against
it. As the refrain goes, there are no easy matches in the Champions League and it’s tough to play away in Europe. Slavia Praha have struggled in the CL this year but not in the Czech First League. They’re 6 points clear at the top with 32 scored and only 7 conceded. They know how to win and they’re strong at home.
If Arsenal have the match under control in the second half, I’d expect to see Max Dowman get a good chunk of minutes. He’s suspended for the next two Premier League matches because of his red card against Fleetwood but eligible to play in the Champions League. The Gunners are managing their depth on the wings — Bukayo Saka is out for a while, Christos Tzolis just came back from a one-month hamstring injury, and Noni Madueke has been dealing with an ankle issue.
The Gunners will be without the aforementioned Bukayo Saka, who’ll miss several more weeks with his thigh injury. Ebere Eze reportedly had an injury issue crop up in the week before the Liverpool match. According to Mikel Arteta, it was a pleasant surprise that he was able to make the matchday squad at the weekend. Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, and Riccardo Calafiori all overcame minor issues to feature, too. William Saliba made a somewhat surprising return to training yesterday and is said to have traveled with the squad. I doubt he makes the bench, though.
