We’re at halftime in Minneapolis, and your Minnesota Vikings trail the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 9-6 on Sunday Night Football at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Vikings started the quarter with the ball, and the offense got themselves moving thanks to a nice pass from J.J. McCarthy to Jalen Nailor to put the Vikings into Atlanta territory for the first time this evening. Then, on a 3rd-and-18, McCarthy found Adam Thielen for a big third down conversion to keep the drive alive, and then he hit Jalen Nailor on a play
that brought up first-and-goal from the 1. Unfortunately, it turned into a disaster from there and the Vikings had to settle for a 33-yard field goal for Will Reichard to make it 6-3 midway through the second quarter.
The Vikings’ defense forced a punt on Atlanta’s next drive and set up shop at their own 12-yard line, and McCarthy threw a pass intended for Jalen Nailor that was intercepted by Atlanta’s Billy Bowman at the Minnesota 38-yard line. Jalen Nailor fell down on the play and Bowman actually landed on Nailor to help gain control of the interception.
The Vikings’ defense limited the damage after the turnover, forcing the Falcons to settle for another Parker Romo field goal attempt. He connected from 33 and made it 9-3 with about 25 seconds left in the half. The Vikings got the ball back and McCarthy was sacked for the fifth time in the first half. However, McCarthy then found Justin Jefferson for a big 51-yard gain, and that was enough to give Will Reichard an opportunity for a 51-yard field goal, which he drilled through the uprights to make it 9-6 going into the locker room.
Minnesota will get the ball first to start the second half as the Falcons won the coin toss and elected to receive rather than defer.
We’re at halftime at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Minnesota Vikings need to get things going as they trail the Atlanta Falcons, 9-6. Come in and join us for the third quarter from U.S. Bank Stadium!
