Emanuel Wilson is one of the best stories to emerge from the Packers’ Week 12 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
His unexpected 107-yard outburst is the Packers’ highest rushing total of the season, and
it caps off a long road to something resembling stardom for Wilson. Once a small school star, Wilson was the man of the moment in Josh Jacobs’ stead, filling in more than admirably as the Packers ground the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive front to powder.
It was the prettiest or most explosive rushing performance you’ll see, but it got the job done for the Packers on a day where they really needed it. They could have passed more, but it seemed clear the Packers wanted to preserve Jordan Love and his ailing left shoulder as much as possible. And with Wilson hammering away, Love had a fairly easy day at the office.
Is that sustainable? Are the Packers a Wilson-and-Jacobs-centric offense now? That’s hard to say, but the Packers have repeatedly shown the futility of extrapolating anything from a single game this year. About the only thing we know for sure about the Packers this year is that Micah Parsons is going to make life hell for opposing quarterbacks. But while the team continues to figure itself out, it can’t hurt to have someone like Wilson hammering away.
