Rutgers has landed its second defensive commit of the 2026 transfer portal, as edge rusher Malachi Davis from Toledo has decided to commit to the Scarlet Knights. He comes to Rutgers after four years at the group of five level and will have one year of eligibility to use with the Knights.
Rutgers lost edge rushers Bradley Weaver and Eric O’Neill to graduation this offseason, and they lost Jordan Walker to the transfer portal. The Knights still have a lot of work to do in this area, but landing Davis
is a start.
Davis originally committed to Toledo as a part of the 2022 class. During his first two seasons with the program, one of which he redshirted, the 6-foot-4, 255-pounder from Holt, Michigan, appeared in just three games. He recorded one tackle during that time.
In 2024, Davis would cement himself as a starter and would continue to start for the Rockets through the 2025 season. In 2024, Davis recorded 20 tackles and two sacks. His production would take a jump in 2025, as he recorded 36 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. He earned All-MAC Third-Team honors in 2025 as well.
He joins Zahmir Dawud as the first two commits to Rutgers as part of the 2026 transfer portal.
