Jaylen Brown has been named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from December 22 to 28, the NBA announced today. Brown averaged 32.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals this week, while shooting 55.9% from the field, 42.9% from three, and 80% from the free-throw line
The selection marks Brown’s sixth career weekly Player of the Week honor — and his second in three weeks. He was also named Player of the Week in the first week of December. Brown is now averaging
32.7 points per game, the highest scoring average any Celtic has had in a single December.
Brown posted 31 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in a comeback win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday and followed that up with a 30-point, 4-assist, 4-steal performance against the Pacers on Friday.
On Sunday, in a loss to the Pacers, Brown tallied 37 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, marking his ninth consecutive game with 30+ points, a Celtics record he now shares with Larry Bird.
In the Eastern Conference, Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes, Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey, Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., and New York Knicks forward Karl-Anthony Towns were all nominated for Player of the Week.
In the Western Conference, Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard was named Player of the Week.
Could Jaylen Brown be named Eastern Conference Player of the Month?
Having earned two Player of the Week selections, Brown is a front-runner for the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Month award for December. Last month, Cade Cunningham won the award in the East, while Denver Nuggets forward Nikola Jokic won it in the West.
Brown has never won Player of the Month before. But this month, he leads the NBA in scoring, averaging 32.7 points per game. He’s also tallying 6.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.
The East’s other strong candidate is Jalen Brunson, who was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week last month, and is averaging 31.1 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Brown has been more efficient than Brunson this month, shooting 54.5% from the field and 43.2% from three (Brunson, meanwhile, is shooting 48.4% from the field and 39.4% from three).
Brown has one more game to make his case in December; the Celtics face the Utah Jazz in their final game of 2025 on Tuesday night.
