Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Football!
In case you missed it, Missouri suffered its third defeat of the season this weekend. Following the game, MU captain and offensive lineman Cayden Green said to
media that Texas A&M’s defense felt a step ahead of Mizzou’s offense during the matchup.
“I think they were starting to get reads on formations and maybe stances,” Green said to the press following the matchup.
If you’re a Tigers fan, that’s not ideal to hear. Drinkwitz met with media again on Tuesday and was asked about it.
“We’ve got to do a better job with our signaling and communication,“ the head coach said on Tuesday. ”We run a lot of outside zone, I think that’s probably pretty predictable.”
Mizzou isn’t officially eliminated from the College Football Playoff quite yet, but they’d need a miracle and a half to sneak in.
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums. Most recently, we’ve got more discussion on Drinkwitz’s future and rumors that surround it.

The Tigers still have work to do to be ranked in the Top 25, but they received votes in the coaches’ poll and AP Top 25 rankings released on Monday.
Up next the Tigers host Minnesota on Wednesday night — marking Mizzou’s first power conference opponent of the season.
More questions to be answered on Wednesday but the Tigers have had a solid start to the season.
Anyway, Mizzou. They’re fine this year. There was a point where I was really hoping they would be great. I even had myself convinced they were at one point. And in some ways I still think they might be, at least partially. But going from 5-0 and in the Top 15 to 6-3 with an outside shot at a losing season in the blink of an eye?
Heartbreak for Mizzou. It feels like a reoccurring theme…
A&M was better in the margins and better overall. Two tremendous starting field position drives helped raise their average but it didn’t matter: against a freshman 3rd-string quarterback they didn’t need to do much on offense to win and they exceeded that meager bar.
The odds were stacked against Mizzou coming in and the Tigers would’ve needed a perfect game to pull of the upset.
The Border War continues this Saturday, this time on the women’s basketball front. The last time these two teams met was in the WNIT back in 2023. These teams haven’t faced off in the regular season since the Big 12 days, when Mizzou beat kU in Lawrence back in 2012. Another fun piece of trivia is that this is the first meeting in Kansas City in 2005 where the Tigers won during the Big 12 Tournament.
Should be a good edition of the beloved (or violent) Border War Rivalry. I’m interested to see if Kellie Harper can get it done.
In the home opener, Mizzou won by getting to the line. The Tigers finished the win against Central Arkansas 33-45 from the free throw line. This game was a little different, as Mizzou only shot 16 FTs. In fact, the team did not shoot its first free throws until the second half.
The Tigers finding different ways to win basketball games is always a good early sign.
On Mississippi State: “They going to be a real challenge. They’ve got a lot of pride, they’re playing to get into bowl contention. So they’re definitely coming with a chip on their shoulder, and we’re coming with a chip on our shoulder, too.”
Coming into the season, this wasn’t supposed to be a big concern. But the Tigers have proven they aren’t dominant against solid teams, and Mississippi State has proven to be a solid team. I think Mizzou takes care of business but this definitely isn’t an easy game.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion in forums ahead of Mississippi State, and basketball discussion ahead of the season.
