Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about College Football!
It was a pretty dry day on the Mizzou side of things (aside from Colin’s story), so I decided to take a step back and look at college football as a whole, especially
with this kind of news.
Cignetti just got PAID. This could cause big implications on the college football stage as there are coaches waiting to get paid. Nebraska HC Matt Rhule is one of the names that has been catching a lot of heat in the recent weeks. Either Nebraska has to pay him — and because of this, even MORE — or he will go get paid that much money elsewhere. Two big spots I could see him landing: Arkansas or Penn State.
Cignetti was also a name I could’ve seen going making the move over to Penn State. Good foundation, area and GREAT money. But he chose to say and I’d say that’s a win for college football.
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums. Most recently, there’s discussion on the Mizzou at Vanderbilt kick-off time on October 25th, and Mizzou flips three-star safety Carter Stewart from Utah & Brody Jones from Cincinnati.

Wednesday night means the first injury reports become available across the SEC, and there is some positive news for Missouri. Heading into the Mizzou at Auburn game on Saturday, there are no new injuries reported for Eli Drinkwitz’s team. Meanwhile, offensive lineman Logan Reichert has been upgraded as questionable. A couple of notable names appear on the Auburn side.
Would love to see Mizzou play a healthy Auburn but this also could end up helping Mizzou’s chances. As of Thursday night, Missouri is a 1.5 point favorite, I could see that shifting in Mizzou’s favor if more news comes out on the Friday injury report.
Despite taking their first loss of the season, the Tigers continue to heat up on the recruiting trail picking up four more recruits over the past week.
After coming into October with a subpar Class of 2026, Mizzou has turned it around and now ranks 31st according to 247Sports.
The team added Brody Jones, Brysen Wessel, Carter Stewart and the headline, Johnnie Jones. Big adds for the team as Drinkwitz preps for the future.
Great news for Missouri’s future as they continue scoring recruit after recruit to close out the Class of 2026 window. Go check out my column!
The Tigers have a large amount of depth at the off-guard position, whether that be with a returning starter like Grace Slaughter or a transfer like Shannon Dowell, Chloe Sotell or Jayla Smith; all of whom were namedropped in Harper’s press conference.
However, the player who I think will benefit the most from the change is junior Abbey Schreacke. She played a key role off the bench over the last two years, starting off the season quite strong before waning during conference.
Dylan knows what he’s talking about when it comes to basketball. Keep an eye on Abbey Schreacke to strengthen her role this season!
It’ll be weird for SEC Basketball fans to watch a Texas A&M game without Wade Taylor IV on the floor, or Andersson Garcia, or Henry Coleman. Heading into last season no team had a roster with more college games played, and no team had more returning games played than A&M last season. But all those players are gone, including non-Seniors Pharrel Payne, Solomon Washington, George Turkson, and Andre Mills, all who followed Buzz to Maryland.
The truth! It’ll be weird to see a Wade Taylor-less A&M. Makes them a lot less scary. Last season despite losing, that game was electric. Because of the SEC, I wouldn’t expect much less this season.
Speaking of the SEC, Meador has played every minute of the conference stretch, and Yang has played all but three minutes in conference play. The two-game weeks can be tough, but that’s when Meador believes the team really leans on one another.
Talk about anchors. This is an awesome story done very well by Colin. Go read!!
The good news about the 12-team College Football is that one loss doesn’t ruin your season — especially coming against a team like Alabama. The bad news is that Missouri missed a golden opportunity for a statement win and their margin for error is now very slim heading into the second half of the season.
Good news and bad news. I’d say the Tigers can maybe suffer one more loss, otherwise, no College Football Playoff debut.
A surprising event occurred to close the first half. The Tigers scored a goal. (Editor’s note: GASP.)
In the final 10 seconds of the half, midfielder Olivia launched the ball from just past the halfway line to inside Texas A&M’s penalty box. The ball found midfielder Hailey Chambliss, and she made a quick touch before firing a last-ditch effort towards the goal. While the ball did not make it to the goal, Aggie defender Bella Yakel fouled Chambliss.
A goal!!!! Real note, good to see the girls at least get one more SEC goal as they only have one more home game of the season.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion in forums ahead of Auburn, and basketball discussion ahead of the season.
