Marc-Andre ter Stegen is now looking likely to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window after previously being determined to stay.
The goalkeeper has lost his place as an automatic starter following the arrival of Joan Garcia and has also been sidelined after undergoing back surgery.
Ter Stegen is expected back before the end of the year but will want to be playing regularly in the second half of the season ahead of World Cup 2026.
Reporter Florian Plettenberg has now issued an update on the situation
and says: “As revealed last week, a transfer for Marc-André ter Stegen in the winter is possible and no longer ruled out. A loan move is also an option, with enquiries already made. His contract runs until 2028, top-class goalkeeper.”
Garcia has impressed since signing for Barcelona and looks set to continue as the team’s No. 1 when he returns from knee surgery, with Wojciech Szczęsny acting as his back-up.
A January move for Ter Stegen therefore looks the best option for all parties, particularly if he wants to stay as Germany’s No. 1 for the World Cup.
