Newcastle United are heading into the summer transfer window facing the very real possibility of losing many of their first XI players following a disastrous season.
With the club sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League, unlikely to secure European qualification, uncertain about who will manage them next season, and a plethora of other problems, the Magpies’ brass had better start planning for the next era of the organization.
Winger-turned-makeshift-striker Anthony Gordon has been one of
the more consistent performers during the Magpies season, contributing 17 goals and five assists across all competitions.
Interest in the forward, obviously, has been building in recent months, with multiple clubs monitoring his situation ahead of the window and a few of them—namely and reportedly Liverpool—already getting in touch with the England international for a potential transfer.
And according to the latest reports, Gordon seems nothing but locked into seeking a transfer out of Tyneside sooner rather than later.
“Anthony Gordon is open to leaving Newcastle this summer, as Arsenal weigh up a mega-money transfer swoop,” the Mirror reported. “Newcastle, however, would demand considerably more for the England international, who wants his future resolved before the World Cup which starts in June.”
The report adds that while Gordon has not formally asked to leave, there is an expectation that he could seek a move during the summer window as interest continues to develop and he is simply in the middle of his prime and poised to win bit-time titles, which might happen now (elsewhere) or never (at Newcastle).
Arsenal are described as under-the-radar long-term admirers, with Gordon discussed internally as part of their recruitment plans. Bayern Munich have also emerged as a potential destination, with reports suggesting a bid in the region of £55million is being considered.
Liverpool is not to be ruled out after their approach and near-completed transfer for Gordon in 2024 before he signed a new deal, even more with Mo Salah leaving the club this summer.
Newcastle are going to sell key players, that’s a fact, and it’s just a matter of time to see how things unfold and who among all starters gets sold.
