When the Chicago White Sox needed him, former Dirty Terp Sean Burke delivered.
On Tuesday, Burke came out of the bullpen for game 2 of the American League Division Series and pitched 5.1 innings for the White Sox. His team was able to turn an early 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead, earning Burke the win before he finally gave up a run with his last pitch of the evening. Through the meat of his outing, Burke retired 13 consecutive batters, the second-best postseason mark by a reliever in the history of baseball.
Burke, who has a 3.34 ERA and 1.20 WHIP on the year, has constantly earned praise from those inside his organization. That outing put his opponents — and the greater baseball community — on notice.
The White Sox have the opportunity to clinch a playoff series at home for the first time since 1906 when they face the Guardians on Wednesday. That game will begin at 4:00 p.m. and be broadcast on TBS and TruTV.
