The 2025 Apertura tournament is in the books, and we have the eight teams that have qualified for Liguilla.
Tigres finishes first
It was a tight battle between Tigres and Pachuca until the end of the season to see who would
finish on top.
The Amazonians had to play Cruz Azul and both teams went goalless in the first half. However, Cruz Azul hit twice at the beginning of the second half through Aerial Chavarin and Alejandra Lomelí. Tigres were frustrated and it looked like they were going to finish the season with a loss and allow Pachuca to leapfrog them. Nonetheless, Tigres’ Diana Ordóñez and Thembi Kgatlana leveled things up in less than five minutes, 10 minutes shy of the end of the game, and it finished 2-2.
That point away from home was enough for Tigres to finish on top, although sharing the same amount of points as Pachuca (42) – with a better goal difference (49 for Tigres, 40 for Pachuca). This is the seventh time Tigres finished first in the regular season, having done so in Apertura 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2025 and Clausura 2021 and 2024.
Charlyn Corral and her goal-scoring record
Pachuca’s Charlyn Corral has indelibly written her name in Liga MX Femenil books after becoming the league’s top goalscorer for a fifth time, and for the fourth consecutive time.
The Tuzas’ forward finished first in this category after scoring 22 times. What is more, she registered 10 assists this season, finishing second only to María Sánchez (11). Aerial Chavarin finished second with 18 goals.
The 34-year-old beat her own record of 21 goals netted in Clausura 2026 this season after scoring goal no. 22 against Chivas. Tuzas’ coach, Óscar “Rambo” Torres, let the star rest on week 17, and nonetheless, Pachuca had no problem beating Tijuana 6-1.
Although the team finished second in the season, they will head to the playoffs with sky-high confidence after this result, and knowing they only finished second after Tigres due to goal differential.
