Things have quieted down a little bit in Jazzland as the Jazz are preparing for the regular season opener. Nevertheless, some moves were made as contract deadlines were hit, and there were a few notes
of interest. Here’s the latest odds and ends of Jazz news.
Utah Jazz waived Mo Bamba, Pedro Bradshaw, and Sean East II
The news here is the waiving of Mo Bamba. Bamba appeared to be locked into the rotation for this season as a third center option, but not anymore. This is probably due to a couple of things. The first point is that Utah likely wants Kevin Love to fill that third center role, and Bamba might just not be very good. Yes, he has incredible length and size, but it has never translated into winning basketball. Utah obviously doesn’t see him being a part of the future or improving in any substantial way. This might be the end of the NBA road for Mo Bamba.
No change on the Walker Kessler contract situation
Jake Fischer dropped his latest news at the Stein Line and gave an update on the Walker Kessler situation. The update is no update:
Nothing has changed, by contrast, on our recent reporting regarding both
Mark Williams in Phoenix and Walker Kessler in Utah. Both appear headed
for unrestricted free agency next summer.
Not a surprise there, but after a phenomenal premiere in his first summer league game, Kessler might earn his way into a bigger contract this restricted free agency. One thing is for sure, the Kessler storyline is going to be an interesting one this season.
AJ Dybantsa looked awesome in his preseason debut
AJ Dybantsa played his first preseason game for BYU and put up some monster numbers.
With AJ Dybantsa already in Utah, half the work is already done to put him in a Jazz jersey. All the Jazz have to do now is something they’ve never done, win the #1 overall pick.
