The Los Angeles Chargers are facing off against the Denver Broncos in Week 5 at SoFi Stadium hoping to grab their first win of the season.
The Chargers have dropped their first four games and have been one of the more disappointing teams in the league. Nothing more would get them back on track with a statement win in Week 5 against the defending AFC West champions. Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers are an underdog by 3.5 points. Let’s take a look at some predictions for the game.
Over/Under: 42.5
The Chargers’ offense
has struggled out of the gate, managing no more than 16 points in any of their first three games. The team had its best offensive showing last week against the Seattle Seahawks, with 23 points, but two of those scores came late in the fourth quarter, in what appeared to be garbage time.
The offense needs to make a statement at home against a division rival, but the Broncos have one of the better defenses in the AFC. Given how they have performed this season, as well as how the Broncos have performed on offense, posting an average of 18.5 points per game, there’s a good chance the under hits.
Prediction: Under
Chargers +3.5
FanDuel is giving the Chargers 3.5 points to start the game. Given the fact that they have not won any of their first four games, this is not much of a surprise. Home underdogs are 9-13 this season, suggesting that there’s reason for them to not be favored against the Broncos.
That being said, the Chargers are hungry for a win, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they won outright. We’ll go ahead and take the Chargers despite them being 3.5-point dogs.
Prediction: Chargers +3.5
Final Score
The Chargers are in desperate need of a win, but nothing will come easily in the divisional matchup, especially against a team like the Broncos, who also need to make a push after starting out the season 2-2.
I could see the game going either way, but there is a very good chance it will come down to the final possession. Given where the Broncos and Chargers are, I’ll take Denver by a field goal.
Broncos 20, Chargers 17
