Bayern Munich played their final preseason friendly of 2026 against RB Leipzig in the Telekom Cup. Bayern won the game 3-1 with goals from Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala, and newcomer Nathaniel Brown. The Telekom Cup may not be a major trophy but Bayern are huge proponents of the idea that every game needs to be taken seriously. No one echoes this sentiment louder than club captain Manuel Neuer, who spoke after the game.
“First of all, I have to say that it feels good. Every friendly needs to be taken seriously,
regardless of which team we’re playing against,” he emphasized, per @iMiaSanMia.
Neuer goes on, citing examples from Bayern’s performances so far this preseason.
“We already played Aston Villa in Asia and put in a really convincing performance there as well – and again today,” he said. Bayern had earlier faced Villa in Hong Kong and won 2-1.
“Of course, there were a lot of changes,” he said, referring to the wildly different squads that featured in each of the games. “The coach tried to give the players playing time and manage their minutes a bit,” he went on.
Finally Neuer concluded, emphasizing that Bayern were deserving winners. “We deserved to win the game today and put in a good performance,” he declared.
Neuer made four saves through the game — holding off Leipzig’s five shots on target. He denied Ridle Baku once in the first hald and in the second half, made a spectacular fingertip save and a save with both his fists.
