Rutgers has hired Brittney O’Dell to be its new Deputy Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator.
Rutgers Athletic Director Keli Zinn hired O’Dell after she had been working in West Virginia’s athletic
department for the past ten years, with her most recent role being Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services and Wellness. She oversaw various areas of the Mountaineers’ Athletics department, including sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, sport psychology, academics, and student-athlete development, while serving as the administrator for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, as well as the women’s tennis teams. West Virginia had record-setting team GPAs with O’Dell at the helm.
“Brittney’s career reflects a proven commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience and fostering an environment of academic, athletic, and personal growth. Her leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow and compete at the highest level. I’m excited to welcome Brittney to the Rutgers family,”- Rutgers Athletics Director Keli Zinn.
As a Senior Woman Administrator, O’Dell will oversee human resources, compliance, academics, sports health, and student-athlete development. She will also serve as the sports administrator for both the women’s basketball and volleyball teams.
O’Dell got her undergraduate bachelor’s degree in family and child sciences from Florida State before earning her master’s degree in educational leadership at UCF. She began her athletic department administration career at UCF, working in academic services for student-athletes from 2009 to 2015. In this role, she oversaw all daily academic operations, made sure all student athletes kept up with their peers in the classroom, and met all NCAA eligibility standards.
This is another example of Zinn adding more professional experience to the Rutgers athletic department. Having connected and experienced leadership at the top is attracting other experienced professionals to fill key positions throughout the department. Zinn has a better chance of achieving her goals for Rutgers Athletics the more she constructs the department with capable professionals. Additionally, it is worth noting that Zinn also worked in West Virginia’s athletic department, just not at the same time.
