The NFL Draft will begin this Thursday, and the Pittsburgh Steelers will be one of the must-watch franchises throughout the course of the weekend.
With a staggering 12 picks and needs at quarterback, wide receiver, and offensive line, among others, the Steelers will have several consequential picks to make. However, they could be set to make notable moves in the trade market, as well.
The Steelers have three quality edge rushers on their roster in T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig. The latter
is due for an extension, as he is set to become a free agent in 2027. This could lead to the Steelers moving on from Highsmith via trade. According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Pittsburgh will listen to trade calls made for Highsmith.
“With Herbig waiting in the wings and having been very productive while rotating with Highsmith and T.J. Watt, the Steelers are expected to take some calls on Highsmith if the phone rings,” Robinson writes.
Highsmith has two years left on his contract. However, Herbig has become undeniable with his consistent pressure and ability to consistently create splash plays off the edge. He had 7.5 sacks in 2025, along with 13 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and one interception. At age 25, he should be a higher priority for the Steelers.
