Brady Singer has operated almost inverse of the Cincinnati Reds so far in this 2026 season. As the club jumped out to a ridiculously lucky 20-11 start to campaign, it was Singer who was struggling – he picked up a blister problem late in spring camp and it seemed to impact both his pitch mix and ability to fully execute what he could throw through the first month or so of the year.
Through April he’d pitched to a 4.97 ERA. By the end of May, he was up to a brutal 6.18 ERA.
As the Reds began to completely
crash and burn, though, Singer somehow managed to remember how to be an effective big league starting pitcher once again. Since his first start in the month of June, he’s pitched to a 2.76 ERA/3.83 FIP with 46 strikeouts across 45.2 IP (8 starts), and has manifested himself once again as a top trade chip on a Reds roster that is destined for overhaul any day now.
A free agent at season’s end, Singer has consistently shown again this year that he’s durable enough to take the ball each and every fifth day, and that paired with his return to form means just about any club out there trying to make the extended push deep into the playoffs will be in the market for his services before the August 3rd deadline. So, as he gets the start for Cincinnati on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners in the series finale, we once again get to steel ourselves to the fact that we may well be watching him on the mound in a Reds uniform for the final time.
The Reds will look to take the series win after besting old friend Luis Castillo in last night’s 4-2 victory, and they’ll attempt to do so by going through righty Emerson Hancock. First pitch is set for 3:40 PM ET.
