It’s been a tough start to the season for the Pittsburgh Steelers both on and off the field. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr has yet to take the field this season after a summer full of contract negotiations that ended without a long-term deal, and they’ve scored just 23 points through two games.
While trade rumors have been swirling regarding Porter over the last number of weeks due to his lack of long-term deal, nothing has taken place at the time of writing. Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports, though, put forward
an idea that would see Pittsburgh move on from not just Porter, but DK Metcalf, as well. DeArdo pitches a trade that would send the pair of Steelers and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a first-round pick and wide receiver Jameson Williams.
“Let’s start with the Steelers getting their coveted first-round pick and the Lions getting Porter,” DeArdo writes. “There’s also the layer of the Lions getting draft compensation from Pittsburgh after giving them a first-round pick (the Steelers would probably offer a lower draft pick since they are trading the better receiver, at least on paper)… If Metcalf and the offense continue to struggle in the coming weeks, however, the Steelers should consider making such a move. While it’s only been two games, it’s clear that the Steelers’ offense is way away from being a top-tier unit. If that continues to be the case, the Steelers should be willing to sacrifice some potential success this year, as it puts them in a better position down the road.“
While the idea of a trade of this magnitude coming to fruition is rare, it would be one that many Steelers fans would sprint to submit to the league office. Landing the speedster Williams would give the offense a bit more juice, while landing a first-round pick could help a potential trade up in the draft for a quarterback.
