A March arrival has departed from Foxborough in August.
The New England Patriots have released Marcus Epps at the roster deadline, with the veteran safety seeking a different fit, as first reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
Epps, 29, played a team-high 114 defensive snaps in the preseason and was on the field deep into the finale versus the New York Giants. Coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2024 last September, he signed a one-year deal in free agency.
The 6-foot, 191-pound Epps has checked into
82 games, including 45 starts, since being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft. A Wyoming product, his career includes 294 tackles and 18 passes defensed to go with three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He earned a Super Bowl LVII ring with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent the past two campaigns with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In additional movement, the Patriots have waived tight end C.J. Dippre and defensive tackle David Olajiga, per reports from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed.
Dippre, 23, agreed to terms at Gillette Stadium as an undrafted free agent in May. The 6-foot-5, 256-pound rookie tight end spent two seasons at Maryland and two seasons at Alabama. He totaled 65 receptions for 782 yards and three touchdowns during his collegiate run, and started all 13 games for the Crimson Tide last fall.
Olajiga, 27, landed through the NFL International Player Pathway prior to training camp in July. A roster exemption followed for the 6-foot-3, 315-pound London native, who could be retained as a 17th member of the practice squad after going through waivers. Undrafted in 2024 out of Butler Community College and Central Missouri, Olajiga spent his rookie year on the scout team of the Los Angeles Rams.
Active rosters around the league will be down to 53 by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.
