The 25th-ranked Florida State Seminoles and the Pitt Panthers (3-2, 1-1 ACC) will kick off the early slate of college football games today in what will be just the fourth ACC meeting between the two programs
since Pitt joined the conference in 2013. Kickoff from Doak Campbell Stadium is scheduled for Noon and will be televised on ESPN.
Pitt last played at FSU in 2020, defeating the Seminoles 41-17. In that game, the FSU defense was unable to prevent WR Jordan Addison from catching 11 passes for 127 yards from QB Kenny Pickett, who also had a rushing touchdown. Pitt’s defense sacked FSU QB Jordan Travis seven times and had 3 interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, holding Travis to just 106 passing yards on the day.
Last week, the Panthers rolled past Boston College, 48-7, totaling 503 yards while six different players scored touchdowns. True freshman QB Mason Heintschel completed 33 passes in 45 attempts for 359 yards and 4 touchdowns in his first game at home. Today’s game will be his first start on the road, in what should be a hostile environment and an FSU defense that is allowing only 195 yards passing and 108 yards rushing per game.
FSU boasts one of the nation’s most explosive offenses. The Seminoles lead the country in plays of at least 40 yards (13), rank 2nd in 30-plus yard plays (21), 4th in 50-plus yard plays (7), and 7th in 60-plus yard plays (4).
For the recruitniks, former Seminole Deuce Spann is on the Pitt roster and has accounted for 9 receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown. Tallahassee native and former Lawton Chiles player freshman Henry Searcy is also on the Pitt roster, but does not appear to have logged any game action yet.
According to FanDuel, FSU is a 10.5-point favorite, with the over/under set at 58.5 points.
