A franchise legend could be Canton bound.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the five final coach nominees for the Class of 2027 on Thursday, and among the quintet is former Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren. Joining Holmgren to round out the finalists is Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin, Dan Reeves, and Mike Shanahan.
In the new Hall
of Fame selection process, only one of the five coach nominees will be selected to advance to the full selection committee, which will cast its ballots in the new year.
Holmgren has twice made it to the full selection committee, in 2020 and 2025, but was not elected either time. Last year, Belichick infamously made it to the selection committee only to be denied.
Holmgren coached the Seahawks for 10 seasons, leading the franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance, a 21-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL. He also went to two Super Bowls with the Green Bay Packers, winning Super Bowl 31 before losing Super Bowl 32. Seattle won the division five times during his tenure and made six playoff appearances. He retired as the franchise’s all-time leader in coaching wins and was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2021. On Monday night, Holmgren raised the 12 flag before Seattle’s game against the Chicago Bears.
