King Green wanted a referee Herb Dean to give him a little more time to try and mount a comeback after he was dropped several times by Esteban Ribovics in their fight at UFC 332 on Saturday.
The veteran lightweight took to Instagram after he suffered a first-round loss and vented his slight frustration at the way things played out.
“Wow oh wow, sheesh. Great fight, shit happens,” Green said. “I told myself regardless or not, I’m not going to be mad at myself but I’m a little mad. I told Herb, this
is going to get sticky. Let me go out on my shield.
“I was still fine. I wanted to keep fighting. I feel like we were getting somewhere. It was a great fight.”
Ribovics dropped Green several times in succession as Dean kept a close eye on the action as it unfolded. It was the last time when Green fell to the canvas that the veteran referee saw enough and decided to rescue Green from further harm.
While he was never unconscious, Green was definitely in serious trouble and Dean made the judgment call to protect him from potentially suffering another knockdown in the round.
The downside about the result was that Green was riding a high heading into UFC 332 with four wins in a row and UFC CEO Dana White admitting that he would be a perfect candidate to one day compete for the “BMF” championship.
Unfortunately, Saturday’s loss likely puts Green out of reach for a title shot any time soon, but he still received one of the biggest and most raucous reactions from the Utah crowd so it probably won’t take much for him to climb that ladder again.
