Lennart Karl’s professional contract with Bayern Munich was recently triggered after the young attacker turned 18-years-old. Karl’s current contract runs until June 2029 and sees Bayern’s latest academy success story earn a reported €2m per year, plus various performance-related bonuses. However, after just a few days Bayern are already looking to sweeten Karl’s deal.
Bayern are reportedly advancing in talks with Michael Ballack — Karl’s agent — over a contract that would see the 18-year-old earn
a salary increase and tie him down to Munich through to 2031. According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Die Rekordmeister are attempting to ward off any unwanted competition for Karl’s signature (via @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern are advancing with Michael Ballack and the rest of Lennart Karl’s camp over a new contract until 2031 with an increased salary. Bayern want to close the doors to clubs interested and keep the 18-year old in the long-term. Karl’s dream of playing for Real Madrid one day remains, but he never wanted to create any problems. He’s very happy and focused on Bayern and is prepared to trust the club’s project by committing to a new long deal
On one hand, back to back contracts for Karl, who is yet to prove himself consistently over the long-term, is sure to feed his ego. On the other hand, the 18-year-old has earned the contract after his magnificent breakout Hinrunde. Basically, Bayern know how good Karl is, and I’m sure he knows it too.
Doing anything other than extending his contract would surely be a mistake. Besides, the longer Karl commits to Bayern, the longer Real Madrid stay out the picture.
