I am admittedly a glass half full type of Nebraska football writer. Probably to a fault but after an entertaining week I couldn’t help but think that isn’t the transfer portal fun? It is like Christmas
every year except the dates keep changing and instead of your grandparents getting you a new tooth brush it is your favorite college football team deciding to pay more for a player than their previous school was willing to pay.
I think we played a game in 6th grade called musical chairs. That is what this reminds me of during the opening of the transfer portal in college football.
So as of the writing of this article Nebraska has “lost” the following players to the transfer portal based off of 24/7 Nebraska.
Kenneth Williams, Willis McGahee IV, Houston Ka’aha’aina-Torres, Brice Turner, Rahmir Stewart, Dylan Parrott, Braylen Prude, Jason Maciejczak, Roger Gradney, Jaylen George, Tristan Alvano, Marcos Davila, Maverick Noonan, Preston Okafor, Malcolm Hartzog, Dylan Raiola, Jamarion Parker and Caden VerMaas.
I wish all of them the best.
According to that same site Nebraska has “won” Anthony Jones (Edge from UCLA), Will Hawthorne (LB from Iowa State) , Dwayne McDougle (Safety from San Diego State), Dexter Foster (LB from Oregon State), Owen Chambliss (LB from San Diego State), Anthony Colandrea (QB from UNLV), Brendan Black (IOL from Iowa State) and Tree Babalade (OT from South Carolina).
Please let me know who I am missing but as of right now I think the players transferring out of Nebraska that have committed somewhere else are Jaylen George (Tulsa) and Jason Maciejczak (Wyoming). I would surely expect Kenneth Williams, Willis McGahee IV, Malcolm Hartzog and Dylan Raiola to find homes pretty quick but I will be interested in where they end up.
The rumor mill is saying that Dylan Raiola is going to Oregon and we shall see about the rest.
I think that at this point, and please don’t let change in the next 16 hours, Matt Rhule and Nebraska are winning with this whole transfer portal thing. You might question how much money they are spending to go out and get players, but I am guessing they might be spending more money to keep players.
I’m talking specifically about players like Jacory Barney, Rex Guthrie and Elijah Pritchett.
Not to be forgotten as far as players I think other teams would be interested in are Riley Van Poppel, Vincent Shavers Jr., Andrew Marshall, Mekhi Nelson, Nyziah Hunter, TJ Lateef, Isaiah Mozee, Caleb Benning, Dawson Merritt, Luke Lindenmeyer, Justin Evans, Archie Wilson and Williams Nwaneri.
Then there is Keona Davis who apparently said he was going to enter the portal but has not done so officially?
We can go back and forth on each and every player but it feels like to me that Matt Rhule and Nebraska have supplemented some needs (offensive line and linebacker) while getting a quarterback that, frankly I am pretty excited to see play.
There might not be any huge splashes coming out of Nebraska but the bigger story might be who they are retaining.

These Huskers aren’t staying silent, nor are they getting comfortable
Fred Hoiberg has had certain teams where it has been silent in his huddles when things are going wayward.
“If a coach isn’t talking nobody’s talking,” he said on Thursday.
That’s not the story this year. Heck, this year the Husker coach will sometimes just let his players talk. He might even have something to say but Rienk Mast or Sam Hoiberg or Jamarques Lawrence or Cale Jacobsen are talking.
Nebraska in the portal: 4 uncomfortable questions as the Huskers navigate the transfer market
LINCOLN, Neb. — Portal euphoria is real. It’s everywhere. But how long does it last?

From ‘broken human being’ to Hurricanes hero, Carson Beck has Miami 1 win from immortality
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Just off the University of Miami’s campus, there’s a bar somewhat hidden from the bustle of this city.
The Sunset Tavern is where locals go, tucked behind a pizza joint at the intersection of Highway 1 and 58th Street, and then you must walk down a dark alley to this dive bar, strung with Christmas lights and featuring, usually, a live band. During Carson Beck’s first week in Miami last January, after his stunning transfer from Georgia, the quarterback and the school’s executive director and ace recruiter, Dennis Smith, sneaked away for a chat about life.
