San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has cleared concussion protocol and is available to play this afternoon in Game 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Malika Andrews reported.
Wembanyama passed his neurological tests going through stages of protocol after sustaining a concussion Tuesday night — cardio work after 24 hours, increasing his activities Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and receiving the Spurs’ medical sign-off and league
clearance on Sunday.
Wembanyama exited during the second quarter of Portland’s 106-103 win in Game 2 on Tuesday after suffering a concussion. He then sat out Game 3, a 120-108 Portland loss, on Friday night at the Moda Center.
The 22-year-old Wembanyama is the NBA Defensive Player of the Year and an MVP finalist this season. In 64 appearances in the regular season, he averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 blocks and 3.1 assists per game.
Game 4 is scheduled to tip off this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. PDT at the Moda Center. The Spurs currently lead the series 2-1.
