Manuel Neuer turns 40 next year but he continues to deliver at the highest level, and he’s not showing signs of slowing down. In fact, he might get another year with Bayern Munich as a reward for his service
in the current season.
According to a report by Bild (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), it was clear to everyone at the club that Neuer’s current deal, set to expire at the end of the season, was to be his last one. However, there is now talk of renewing his deal for another year and that a lot of personnel are in favor of it.
Now you might be wondering, “What next with Jonas Urbig?” — because there is the possibility of him going down the Alexander Nübel route where Neuer’s presence forces the club to loan the understudy out or maybe even sell him. Just a little reminder: Neuer himself was involved in the signing of Urbig from FC Köln, and that there was an agreement that the 39-year-old would give playing time to his deputy in this season. That’s indicative of the club’s and Neuer’s trust in the 22-year-old, and if God forbid something happens to Neuer then at least there’s a capable number 2.
