The bad injury luck for the Texas Longhorns continues this season, with ESPN’s Pete Thamel reporting Sunday that senior left tackle Trevor Goosby will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury sustained in Saturday’s win over the Ole Miss Rebels.
OnTexasFootball reported it as a patella tendon injury.
He was carted off the field in the first quarter after going down and favoring his left knee. He returned to the sidelines on crutches during the game. Following the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said his injury didn’t “look very good.”
Senior Andre Cojoe came on in relief for Texas following Goosby’s injury and struggled in pass protection, including losing a one-on-one matchup that resulted in the strip-sack touchdown early in the third quarter to open up the comeback attempt by the Rebels.
Texas will either need the career backup to level up quickly or find other answers in Kyle Flood’s group.
Goosby was a key piece of Texas’s hopes for success this year, as a projected first-round draft pick returning to anchor the offense and secure quarterback Arch Manning’s blind side.
The fourth-year player was receiving first-round buzz in the NFL Draft process a year ago, but made the decision to return to Texas for another year of development and a run back at the College Football Playoff.
Goosby is also one of at least two potential first-rounders to miss significant time, just a week after Colin Simmons suffered an ankle injury that will reportedly sideline him for multiple weeks, as we still await news on Cam Coleman’s status after his shoulder injury.
Texas will need to find answers sooner rather than later, with the losses to Oklahoma and Florida taking up all of their margin for error in a year in which they were expected to compete for a national championship.
