Now that the 2026 NFL draft has come and gone for the Los Angeles Rams, it’s never too early to look ahead to next year. Quarterback shouldn’t be a position of need for the Rams after taking Ty Simpson, but that didn’t stop one 2027 mock draft from spicing things up.
SB Nation’s James Dator has L.A. taking South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers with the No. 30 pick. In this scenario, Sellers is the fifth signal caller taken in the first round, after Dante Moore (Dolphins, No. 1), Arch Manning (Jets, No. 2),
Julian Sayin (Cardinals, No. 3) and D.J. Lagway (Steelers, No. 9).
FanDuel Sportsbook has the Gamecocks star at +1100 odds of going first overall in the 2027 NFL draft. Sellers has work to do after regressing in his second season as the team’s starter. South Carolina went 4-8 as Sellers’ touchdown-to-interception ratio fell from 18-7 to 13-8, while his completion percentage dipped from 65.6 to 60.8. If he can return to his freshman peak, he’ll easily move back up in the projections.
Already, this is an unrealistic mock draft, as the Rams wouldn’t be dumb enough to draft back-to-back first round QBs. The only way that would happen is if Simpson starts the bulk of the team’s games and never progresses as the season goes on. Since he’ll be sitting behind Matthew Stafford to begin his career, the only time he might see action in Year 1 would be in the regular season finale, assuming the team has a playoff spot locked up.
Unless Simpson completely stinks it up in a limited sample size, he’ll remain the future at the position for the team. More than likely, this won’t be a Josh Rosen to Kyler Murray-type situation in Hollywood.
No matter what direction L.A. appears to go in the 2027 draft, they appear set for this upcoming season. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Rams have +380 odds to win the NFC Championship, best in the conference and just ahead of division rivals Seattle (+500) and San Francisco (+800).
