Despite The Alexander Isak Transfer Saga taking up most of the transfer news oxygen surrounding Liverpool and beyond these days, there are still other bits of business to do. That business includes 19-year-old attacking midfielder Lewis Koumas, who has now joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan.
This is the Liverpool academy player’s second season-long loan, after he made an impressive 47 appearances for Stoke City last season, including 26 league starts. Koumas bagged 4 goals and added 3 assists
during his time at Stoke.
Koumas made his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup in February 2024, a 3-0 win over Southampton, a match in which he scored the opening goal.
However, he’s not had much of a look-in since, and other academy players such as Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni seem to have much more of a direct path to first team football at Liverpool at the moment.
Regardless of his Liverpool future, if Koumas can once again nail down a starting role at another Championship club, it will be great for his development, and increase the likelihood of securing a permanent move to play first team football if he is not ready for the massive step up from the Championship to a Champions League club.
All the best, Lewis.
