Michael Soroka joins the I-Cubs on a rehab assignment.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs stopped Indianapolis, 6-2.
Jordan Wicks pitched the first three innings and gave up one run on three hits. He struck out four and walked no one.
Michael Soroka came on to pitch the fifth inning and blew a lead when he gave up a solo home run to Jake Suwinski to lead off the sixth. However, that was the only baserunner Soroka allowed in his 2.1 innings of work as he retired the other seven batters he faced. Soroka struck out three.
He got the win after Iowa retook the lead in the top of the seventh.
Gavin Hollowell pitched the eighth and ninth innings, retired all six batters he faced and got the save. Hollowell struck out one.
Second baseman Hayden Cantrelle hit a two-run home run in eighth inning to tack on two insurance runs. It was his fourth home run this year. Cantrelle was went 3 for 5 with two doubles and the home run.
Catcher Carlos Pérez broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning with an RBI single. Pérez was 3 for 5.
Right fielder Owen Caissie doubled twice in a 2 for 5 night. Caissie scored once and had one RBI.
First baseman Jonathon Long went 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI double. He also scored one run.
Third baseman Dixon Machado was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. He scored one run.
DH Caleb Knight went 2 for 5.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies were extinguished by the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 3-0.
Connor Schultz started and took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits over 5.1 innings. Schultz struck out eight and walked two, so that’s good.
Knoxville had one hit in this game, a leadoff single by center fielder Carter Trice in the third inning. He was 1 for 3.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were caged by the Columbia Fireflies (Royals), 2-1. The Fireflies win the best-of-three Division playoffs, two games to none.
Pierce Coppola started this game but had to leave after one batter into the third inning with some sort of injury. Coppola’s final line was 2+ innings and gave up three hits. He walked one and struck out two.
Kevin Camacho relieved Coppola and got the loss after he gave up two runs in the fifth inning. Camacho’s final line was two runs on four hits over four innings. Camacho struck out four and walked one.
Brayden Spears pitched the seventh and eighth innings and retired all six batters he faced. He struck out three of them.
The Pelicans took the lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by second baseman Ty Southisene, which scored third baseman Christian Olivo. Southisene went 1 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. Olivo was o for 3.
Center fielder Kane Kepley was 2 for 4 with two stolen bases.
Shortstop Angel Cepeda went 2 for 4.
Obviously this ends Myrtle Beach’s season. They were bad in the first half but turned things around, putting up a .672 winning percentage in the second half.
