The Miami Dolphins return from their bye week today to face the New York Jets. They continue to look for their first victory of the season, having lost each of their first five games before their off week. It’s been a rough start to a complete rebuild, but has it been bad enough to shake fans’ confidence in the team?
According to FanDuel Sportsbook odds, the Dolphins have their best chance to pull off a win so far this year, with just a +3.5-point spread for today’s game.
Dolphins fan confidence
Our weekly SB Nation Reacts
poll asks fans whether they are confident in the Dolphins’ direction. Heading into the bye, fan confidence fell from a season-high 87 percent positive responses to 71 percent. While that is still a really high mark, especially for a 0-5 team, a 16 percent drop is significant. Would the bye week change anything?
No. Our poll, run through the bye week, held fairly steady, with 72 percent of the responses saying they are confident in Miami’s direction. Now facing the Jets in Week 7, will the fans continue to think the Dolphins are headed in a positive direction in the next edition of our poll?

Bye week improvement
We also asked this week what the biggest area of improvement for the Dolphins needs to be coming out of the bye week. In what is probably the least surprising result, 84 percent of fans said quarterback play needs to improve. Malik Willis, in his first year as a full-time starter, has struggled, as if he wants to find the perfect play rather than take the play the defense gives him. He has taken sacks he did not need to, forced passes into bad spots, and preferred to stay in the pocket rather than use his legs to gain yards. Will we see improvement following the self-scouting the team did during the bye week?
The pass rush was second in the poll, receiving 12 percent of the vote. The Dolphins have four sacks this season, half of the league’s second-lowest total through Week 6. Miami’s four sacks came in one game, and no one has pulled down the opposing quarterback in four of Miami’s five games. That has to change if the Dolphins want any chance of success this year.
The offensive line and the team’s health each received two percent of the vote.
