We are, as of this writing, about six hours from kick-off in the New York Giants season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
And as things stand right now, nobody seems quite sure if Giants’ star receiver Malik Nabers will play.
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Nabers’ status for tonight’s game “remains murky at best.” Schefter points to the Giants elevating WRs Dalen Cambre and Braxton Berrios to the active roster. The decision on whether Nabers plays has been left to the player
himself, and Schefter adds that Nabers hasn’t given the Giants’ clarity on whether or not he’ll play.
Schefter reports that Nabers is “leaving whether or not he [Nabers] plays to God. He wants God to guide him.”
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that Nabers has been cleared to come back. Glazer says, “They’re [the Giants] are going to bring him out about three hours before the game. It’s his [Nabers’] decision if he plays, how much he plays.”
He adds, “From what I’m gathering right now, the sentiment is that they think he’s going to go. But they won’t really know until three hours before.”
Three hours before kick-off will be roughly 5 p.m. eastern, and we’ll update throughout the afternoon with more information on Nabers’ status as we get it.
If Nabers can’t pay, the Giants will likely be depending on TE Isaiah Likely and WR Darnell Mooney to fill the void, as well as Odell Beckham Jr. in his return to MetLife Stadium.
